Microsuction is a procedure used to safely remove ear wax, dead skin, foreign objects, and sometimes infected material from the ear canal. It involves using a small, gentle suction device—similar to a tiny vacuum—to clear debris.
This treatment is suitable for most people, provided you can remain still during the procedure. It is often recommended for patients who cannot safely undergo ear irrigation or have found it ineffective or uncomfortable in the past.
Microsuction may be particularly beneficial if:
- You have previously experienced problems with ear irrigation
- You have a current or recent ear infection
- ou have undergone ear surgery (excluding grommets)
- You have had a perforated eardrum, either in the past or currently
- You experience tinnitus, as irrigation can sometimes make symptoms worse
What does it feel like?
You may notice some noise during the procedure and experience unusual sensations in the ear. However, the process is generally well tolerated, and many people feel immediate relief and improved hearing afterward.
