What is microsuction?
Microsuction is the term used to describe the procedure to remove wax, dead skin , foreign objects and even infection from the ear . A small suction tube is used to “hoover” out the debris from the ear canal.
Anyone can have microsuction as long as you are able to remain still throughout the procedure. MIcrosuction is used for patients who cannot safely or easily have the debris removed from the ears by irrigation.
However there are lots of reasons why microsuction is the best course of treatment for you.
- If you have had problems with irrigation in the past.
- If you have had a recent or current ear infection
- If you have had any form of ear surgery ( apart from grommets )
- If you have had a past or current perforation to the ear drum
- If you have tinnitus. Very occasionally some people may find that having their ears irrigated aggravates their tinnitus.
